Transcription: The plough has its origins in the third and fourth millennia, when it could be found in cultures as separate as those of Mesopotamia and Egypt. The plough proper seems to date from the first century AD, and the industrial plough, made of cast iron, was built in Holland in the 1730s. Steel farm ploughs drawn by tractors have been around since the early 1900s, and the basic designs of straight plough and disc plough have changed very little since then. It remains the single most important tool for a farmer.
